Interview with John Moore of 3D4Medical

Q: What inspired you to begin designing medical animations?
A: We had a previous company that developed sales training tools for the pharmaceutical industry- We found out pretty quickly that we were better at the graphics and animations than anything else- So we decided to concentrate on what we were really good at. Seems simple but it is effective.

Q: Your animations are so detailed and realistic. How do you accomplish this?
A: Patience, talented people, and a good eye- that is the secret for any graphic or animation. Additionally you always need to challenge yourself and not accept mediocrity, not be afraid to make an animation, or anything else you are working on, the best that it can be- that can be tough on people and time.

Q: What’s the most challenging aspect of designing medical footage?
A: Making it medically accurate while simultaneously capturing the imagination and the attention of the viewer. They are, in most cases, polar opposite rules, that together must be adhered to in the production of medical animations.

Q: What's your favorite clip that you currently have represented in the Artbeats FootageHub?
A: I like JM-FH100-17. As you can see from our collection I am a huge fan of lighting and texture- For me this animation embodies what our craft is all about.

Q: What advice can you give to 3D artists who are just getting started in the stock footage industry?
A: The tools are better these days than when we started 7 years ago - But the 3D artists are not better - They really need to hone their craft. Build a portfolio that is specific to the area you want to be in and work your socks off to be the best in that field.
